Description
PERMIN Cream 30gm is an antiparasitic medication containing Permethrin (5% W/W) as the active ingredient. It is primarily used to treat infections caused by tiny insects like mites and lice, such as scabies and pediculosis.
Key Details
Active Ingredient: Each gram of cream contains 50 mg (5%) of Permethrin. Permethrin is a synthetic pyrethroid that works by disrupting the nerve cell membranes of parasites, leading to their paralysis and death.
Uses: It is indicated for the treatment of scabies (a condition where mites burrow into the skin causing intense itching and rash) and pediculosis (head lice or crab louse infestations). It also effectively kills the eggs (nits) of these parasites.
Application: The cream is for external use only. For most adults, it is applied in a thin layer over the entire body (from the neck down to the soles of the feet), left on for 8 to 14 hours, and then washed off thoroughly with soap and water. One application is often enough, but a second one may be needed after 7 days if live mites or lice are still present.
Common Side Effects: Most side effects are mild and transient and may include a temporary burning, stinging, or tingling sensation at the application site, as well as itching or redness. Itching may persist for a few weeks after treatment, which is usually an allergic reaction to the dead mites and not a sign of treatment failure.
Precautions: Avoid contact with eyes, nose, or mouth. The cream can be absorbed into fabrics and may pose a fire hazard if not cleaned properly after use. Pregnant or breastfeeding women and children under two months of age should use this medication only after consulting a doctor.
